Today I heard “Humanitarian” Arundhati Roy in an interview with Karan Thapar on “Devil’s Advocate” expressing her fear about us moving from “Democracy to Majoritarianism to Fascism”… She raised questions about police and their so called encounters, their propaganda to justify their acts and role of media in the whole process.
Few serious questions came to mind for her as well as all humanitarians…
Are these human rights laws applicable only to minorities or are they applicable to human beings irrespective of their region, cast, creed and nationality? From the propaganda of all these humanitarians it seems that these are applicable only to minorities.
Are these human rights applicable to soldiers fighting on border, getting killed to save all of us (including these humanitarians!!)
She expressed that if out of 150 million Muslims and equal number of Aadivasi and Dalits are targeted by Police and majority. Even 10 or 15% of them decide to fight back and turn terrorists, we are putting ourselves and entire mankind in danger. Her other issue is Police is doing communal profiling in their investigations.
Yes… You are right we are creating danger for ourselves. But if you apply same principal and think… if you continue to deal with this issue on the basis of their religion and expect policing to protect someone because he / she belongs to minority community, members of majority community can turn terrorist. And if we take the same percentage (assuming all are human!!) we are creating much bigger threat… Isn’t it?
Another point here is do we have police force only from the majority community? I guess not… (Unless Ms Arundhati Roy proves it otherwise). If police is doing communal profiling, do we mean to say that minority members of our police force are quite about it… For God sake… Police Commissioner of Mumbai is Mr. Hassan Gafur. He is from minority community (once again if Ms Roy wants to prove it otherwise!!) If his subordinates decide to take action based on communal profiling, I am sure he will not tolerate it.
Ms Humanitarian needs to answer herself on the point of communal profiling, by calling them 150 million Muslim, what are you doing?… Are you not doing communal profiling…
Anyway where are we heading with all these questions? No where… In all this discussion about “Human Rights” and “Communalism”, “Indiansim” is lost somewhere…
Following are few points which I thought could help us and our country to fight communal challenges and promote “Indianism”
We really need to think as an “Indian”. There should be only one law of the land. Uniform civil code should be implemented.
No public discussions about religion. Everyone is allowed to follow their religion in their houses or at the places of worship.
Any forcible conversions (by preaching, bribing or coercion) should be punished. Priests can preach about their religion inside the place of worship but not in public. Committee of all religion committee should be formed to monitor all such cases.
All opportunities should be given purely on the basis of merit. For economically backward people (irrespective of religion / cast) provide assistance so that they can compete. By relaxing competition on the basis of religion and cast, we are weakening our social structure.
Media should be monitors for giving news with communal reference…. News like A Christian was killed, A Hindu girl was raped, A Muslim youth is linked to this attack… should not be tolerated.
To implement these suggestions we need to create awareness… Awareness should tranlate into collective opinion… This collective opinion will emrge as a power… A power that will bring the social revolution!!
Let’s Dream and Hope… If possible Act… for better India.
